Oxfordshire’s junior tennis players hit the courts at North Oxford for the second annual Oxfordshire Junior Tennis Festival (26 August – 1 September).
With more than 300 thrilling matches over seven age groups, the Festival featured players from six years of age through to 18 with singles, doubles and mixed doubles across all age categories.
Held at North Oxford Tennis Club, all the juniors competing came from tennis clubs across Oxfordshire with organisers keen to make the event more fun and inclusive to players who not only compete at regional or national level but also for those playing at local tennis clubs and public parks.
There was also a fun family event for juniors and seniors in a mixed doubles tournament. There were some strong performances across all age categories with Aiden Casey making a clean sweep of all the events he entered: 14 and under boys, 16 and under boys, singles and doubles.
“We have had a great week of tennis,” said Nicola Maskens, Chair of Tennis Oxfordshire. “The enthusiasm of our juniors was clear to see and all the matches were played in a highly competitive but sporting spirit.”
Oxfordshire Junior Tennis Festival is just one of several initiatives planned to get more young people playing tennis – either within their school environment or via their local tennis club.
