Junior players – competing at club, regional and international level – were recognised at the second Tennis Oxfordshire annual awards night (2 November).
There were special achievement awards for Aiden Casey, top best performing boy and Chloe Elliott, top best performing girl. The Oxfordshire under-12 boys’ team of Bobby Hornby, Arthur Manson and Jack Veal were also recognised for winning the eastern region inter-county Lionel Cox trophy.
Some of the county’s top players – unable to attend the evening at Abingdon & Witney College due to international tennis commitments – sent video messages, including Alexis Canter, now aged 20 who played through the ranks for Tennis Oxfordshire before joining the ATP tour.
A special award was given to Oxford Sports Tennis Club coach, Dave Tuck from the Tennis Oxfordshire Management Committee for “all the work he puts into tennis, for being a real ambassador of the game, a coach who is passionate about his sport and who always has the best interests of our junior players at heart.”
The awards were presented by Oxfordshire County Team Captains: Jon Maskens and Lucy Brown.
