8U Teams shine at Inter County Event

On Sunday 17th March, the Oxfordshire 8U teams made the long journey to Cambridge for the East Region inter county event.

Both the Girls and Boys teams had prepared well and were all ready to work hard and learn from there matches.

The girls were up first and had 3 very tough matches against eventual champions Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and a very strong Suffolk team. The girls showed great team spirit and stuck to their goals which led them to their last group match against Norfolk. In a close battle the girls managed to draw the match 3 – 3 which put them in with a chance of 4th place but unfortunately lost out by one rubber.

The girls improved throughout the day and despite finishing the day in 10th place had a great experience.

Next up were the boys team. They had lots of energy and were keen to put their tactics onto that match court.

Throughout the group the boys battled hard and had some very close matches. They were picking up rubbers against some excellent opposition and managed to pick 4 up against Northamptonshire and secure Oxfordshire’s first win of the day. They went onto finish 4th in their group and progressed to the 5th-8th playoffs. First up was a tough encounter with Berkshire but despite some great improvements they came out 2nd best.

The final match was a rematch against Buckinghamshire. Oxfordshire had been well beaten by Bucks so this was going to be a good marker of how the boys improved throughout the day. All six players battled really hard and pushed Bucks all the way but Bucks proved just to strong.

It was great to see how much the boys had improved.

Overall the girls and boys had a great day and loved being part of a team. All the players worked really well with the Captains and can hold their heads high.

Many thanks to coaches Tom and Olly and to all team supporters.
