Team: Bea Painter, Elizabeth Cairns, Michaela Shakespeare and Hannah Denly.
We found ourselves in a very strong group with a playing surface of artificial clay which was also problematic, however everyone gave maximum effort and should be very proud of themselves.
Day 1 – Hertfordshire 0-6 Loss
The first day was a tough one for the girls with all Hertfordshire players ranked in the top 46 in the UK. They all had tough matches, losing in straight sets.
Day 2 – Wiltshire 0-6 Loss
A positive start from Hannah, seeded four, winning the second set 7-5 and playing some great tennis to come back from a 6-2 first set loss. Hannah fought well in the third set tie break but couldn’t quite get the win, losing 10-7. Michaela had a tough match with some good rallies, losing 6-3 6-3. Bea and Elizabeth had two very tough singles matches and the doubles was equally tough losing in straight sets.
Day 3 – Hampshire and IOW 0-6 Loss
The third day was a fight for 5th and 6th place. The girls had some really long and close matches. Even though they lost all in straight sets the girls played so much better – just struggling to convert the deuce points. There were some very tight points and great rallies.
Both girls’ doubles started positively with Michaela and Bea going 3-0 up. Hannah and Elizabeth started quickly, getting the first set 6-2. Bea and Michaela eventually lost 6-3 6-1. Elizabeth and Hannah just narrowly lost in the 3rd set tie break 10-7.
