Oxfordshire players do battle at Road to Wimbledon County Finals

On the weekend of June 22-23, the 14U Road to Wimbledon County Finals took place at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, under the watchful eye of Tournament Referee, Alison Jackson.

Road to Wimbledon is the biggest junior tournament in British tennis and gives all 14U players the opportunity to progress through to compete on the world famous grass courts at Wimbledon.

18 venues across the county have been running events, with winners and runners-up being invited to the county finals.

14U Girls Event

There was some smashing tennis on display in the girl event, with the championship final being contested by the number 1 and 2 seeds, Ottelia Tetley and Anoushka Kenth.

Anoushka qualified for the finals at North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club whilst Ottelia came through an open event at Bloxham School.

Congratulations to Ottelia who was crowned County Champion and continues on the final journey to Wimbledon.

14U Boys Event

There were some tough matches on route to the semi-finals, with 4 seeded players falling at the quarter final stages.

Number 1 seed Monty Bowles (The White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre) contested the final against Simon Ukrainets (Magdalen College School, Oxford).

Many congratulations to Simon who was crowned Oxfordshire’s Road to Wimbledon County champion after a 4-3(4), 4-1 win.
