Women’s Over 40 team score big win

Oxfordshire O40s arrived at the White Horse Tennis and Leisure Centre on Saturday 14th September, ready to face their final opponents of the Summer season, Warwickshire who happened to be top of Division 3A.

The strong Warks #1 won her singles in the time it took Oxon #2 Belles, to take a first set lead on the adjacent court. This enabled the Oxon doubles pair of Suzi and Faith to start their campaign and by the end of round 1, Oxon were leading 2-1.

Suzi and Faith then took on the singles players with Evelyn Hargraves joining Belles to play the Warks doubles team. Oxon took the first set comfortably and despite a tighter second set, took the third and match-winning crucial rubber.

The Warks singles players secured their second rubber putting them, we think, top of the division and securing one of the promotion places.

Oxfordshire’s fate, despite winning 4 of their 5 matches, depends upon the result between Essex, currently in third place, against bottom of the table Shropshire.
