DAY 1 vs DEVON 6-3 WIN

Day one was going to be a hard match against Devon who Oxfordshire beat narrowly in the summer county cup, 5-4. No one dreamed of a 6-3 win but it was secured thanks to great singles come backs from Allan, winning 7-5 in the third set and Jon wining 7-6 (9-7) in the third set. Add to that a doubles win from Jack and Nigel, 10-8 in the match tie break, victory was ours.

Having been white washed 9-0 on the first day, CI were definitely up for a fight against us. Allan, Joe and Ben won in straight sets, taking us to 3-3 after the singles. Christian & Nigel lost a very tight match in a match tie break but with Joe & Allan winning their doubles easily, it was all up to the last doubles. Oxfordshire had the advantage of sending in its undefeated doubles pairing of Ben and Jon. The pair pulled out all the stops to win 6-2 6-2, sending the team through to Sunday to play for promotion. Ben and Jon have now secured 17/17 consecutive wins in doubles after winning the previous day as well.

Cambs had won their first two days of matches 9-0 so we knew we would be up against a tough team if we were to gain promotion. Joe almost set us up the tie in the first round of matches, losing an epic long three setter after almost 2.5 hours. Oxfordshire battled hard but the only win of the day came from Ben.

I would like to thank Tennis Oxfordshire for their continued support both as the team would not be able to compete min events like this without them.

A big thanks to my team for all their efforts not only on the weekend but also in the practices and committing times in the lead up to the event.
