This year the Oxfordshire ladies County Cup team were based at Redbridge Tennis Club in Ilford and were looking forward in getting their winter campaign underway.

Team:
Chloë Elliot
Kathryn Hampshire
Holly Sheeran-Hall
Patrisia Radan
Diana Mascenikova
Hannah Denly
Lucy Denly
Holly Craig

Day 1 – vs. Cumbria – 4-5 loss
First day started with victories in the first three singles. Holly Craig and Hannah Denly battled to win in close three set matches whilst Patrisia came from 5-2 down in the second set to claim her win. With Cumbria taking the other three singles it was level at three all going into the doubles. Holly and Chloe won their match 6-2 6-1 but unfortunately Cumbria got the other two meaning they won the tie.

Day 2 – vs. Devon – 2-7 loss
Having won the previous day 9-0, Devon certainly looked the strongest team at the event. Devon won all of the singles matches but there were lots of positives to take away with good tennis and even better attitudes on show from Oxfordshire. This continued into the doubles and we came away with two wins. Holly and Chloe continued their winning run and Hannah and Lucy teamed up to fight back to win their match 3-6 6-4 10-5.

Day 3 – vs. Northamptonshire 4-5 loss
After the singles, Oxfordshire were ahead 3-2 as Patrisia, Hannah and Holly Craig all taking their second singles wins of the weekend. With all to play for in the doubles, Hannah and Lucy again came from a set down to win a tense encounter 4-6 7-5 11-9. It came down to the final doubles match which Northamptonshire claimed.

The full results can be viewed here.

Well done to all the players with lots of positives and experiences to take from the weekend. We were the only team to take rubbers off the eventual winners Devon and the other two ties could have gone either way.

The future of Oxfordshire Ladies’ tennis is looking bright. The team showed excellent attitude all weekend and I look forward to working with the team going forwards.

Thank you to the players and to all the supporters who came to cheer us on.
