With a maximum of 12 teams per division and “3 up/3 down” promotion, we will see 50% of teams in most divisions changing at the end of the season. Lots to play for and lots of opportunities for promotion.
The first matches of the winter season were scheduled for the weekend of 7th/8th October with the final matches due to be played over the weekend of 24th/25th March. All results and the latest tables are available in the Tennis Oxfordshire section of League Planner.”
Babolat OLTA Leagues – Winter 16/17 round up
In total 42 clubs 166 teams and 1434 players took part in the winter 2016/17 men’s and women’s leagues.
The battle for top position in the men’s Premier Division was close until the last. With just one match to play, Abingdon A needed an 8-0 victory over Portcullis to take the title. In the event they “only” managed a 7-1 win, meaning they ended up with 68 points, exactly the same as Oxford Sports A. However, Oxford Sports had won the fixture against Abingdon (7-1) and so under the league rules emerged as winners of the men’s league.
With the women’s league, the outcome was much clearer. Oxford City A took the title with 82 points, fully 14 points clear of the second placed club (Oxford Health and Rackets A) who in turn were closely followed by Cholsey and North Oxford.
On the men’s side Oxford Sports had a lot to celebrate. Not only did they take top spot in the Premier Division but their B team also won the Division 1 title (photo) and their E and F teams the top two positions in Division 7.
