Babolat Winter League
The Tennis Oxfordshire Winter League has men’s and women’s divisions and runs between September and March. It is a doubles competition with each team consisting of two pairs. Each pair plays two sets against each opposing pair with one point for every set won.
Winter 2018/19 Season underway
A total of 89 men’s teams entered the winter 2018/19 competition, playing in 8 divisions. In the case of women there are 80 teams playing in 7 divisions. With a maximum of 12 teams per division and “3 up/3 down”, 50% of teams in most divisions change at the end of the season. This new structure was introduced for winter 17/18 and worked well. There were far fewer matches being played in February and March that did not have a baring on either promotion or relegation.
The first matches of the winter season were scheduled for the weekend of 29th/30th September with the final matches due to be played over the weekend of 16th/17th March. However, no doubt the weather will intervene and re-arranged matches will be played into early April. All results and the latest tables are available in the Tennis Oxfordshire section of League Planner.
“Winter 2017/18 season completed (finally!)
Yes, the weather was dreadful, with many matches being re-arranged twice and a few three times due to rain or snow. But in the end every fixture was played. The clear winner of the women’s Premier Division was Oxford City A with 71 points from 11 matches, well clear of runners-up Blewbury A. The men’s Premier Division was somewhat closer with North Oxford A ending the season 8 points ahead of second placed Oxford Sports A.
The winners of the thirteen divisions were:
Premier North Oxford A
1 Thame B
2 Blewbury A
3 Appleton A
4 Princes Risborough A
5 Appleton B
6 Oxford Sports E
7 Wantage D
Premier Oxford City A
1 Faringdon A
2 Mapledurham A
3 OHRC B
4 North Oxford E
5 Woodstock C
6 OHRC C
Many congratulations to these clubs and teams. Their winners certificates will be presented at the Fixtures meeting on 3rd September.”

Babolat OLTA Leagues – Winter 16/17 round up
In total 42 clubs 166 teams and 1434 players took part in the winter 2016/17 men’s and women’s leagues.
The battle for top position in the men’s Premier Division was close until the last. With just one match to play, Abingdon A needed an 8-0 victory over Portcullis to take the title. In the event they “only” managed a 7-1 win, meaning they ended up with 68 points, exactly the same as Oxford Sports A. However, Oxford Sports had won the fixture against Abingdon (7-1) and so under the league rules emerged as winners of the men’s league.
With the women’s league, the outcome was much clearer. Oxford City A took the title with 82 points, fully 14 points clear of the second placed club (Oxford Health and Rackets A) who in turn were closely followed by Cholsey and North Oxford.
On the men’s side Oxford Sports had a lot to celebrate. Not only did they take top spot in the Premier Division but their B team also won the Division 1 title (photo) and their E and F teams the top two positions in Division 7.
