Goring Tennis Club
Sheepcot Recreation Ground, Gatehampton Road, Goring, Berkshire, RG8 0EN
Goring Tennis Club is a mid-sized tennis club located at Sheepcot field in the outskirts of Goring-on-Thames in rural South Oxfordshire. The rolling hills and surrounding farmland make a pleasant backdrop to the club.
With over 250 members across all age groups we offer a variety of tennis for all standards:
- Club Sessions for senior members
- Club sessions for junior members
- Teams that play in the local leagues against other Clubs
- Coaching for both individuals and groups
- Easter and summer camps for our junior members.
We have five all weather outdoor courts, two of which are floodlit. Our clubhouse has recently been refurbished.
The Club was formally set up in 1968 following a number of years when some enthusiastic players from Goring had played on local hired courts. In 2018 we are celebrating our 50th Anniversary.
The Club moved to its current location in 1973, when the group arranged with Goring Parish Council to contribute towards the improvement of the existing courts on the Sheepcot Recreation Ground. The Courts were then expanded to five courts with some floodlighting. The Clubhouse was added in 2003.
Our membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March. If you are interested in joining please contact our membership secretary David V at:
If you are not sure and want to see if the club suits you, then please feel free to come along for a few of our club sessions. These are turn-up and play sessions.

Thame Tennis Club, Oxfordshire club of the year 2015, has recently seen the addition of four artificial clay courts along with two hard courts, all of which are flood-lit. The club does not operate a booking system, floodlights are included free in membership, with an ‘open doors’ policy implemented. Thame Tennis Club’s mission is to provide tennis to the surrounding community and those that wish to play, without barriers, to promote the idea that tennis is a fun, inclusive and sociable game that can be played at all ages.
Sitting on the Oxfordshire/Buckinghamshire border the club has enjoyed recent success, not only through the improvement in facilities, but also with the 21 teams that run through both the summer and winter in various leagues and formats. The club has recently been selected as a pilot for the ‘Pay and Play’ scheme, encouraging play without membership. Court booking can be made online, including the use of floodlights through the winter months (http://www.thametennisclub.co.uk/booking/).
The club runs an extensive coaching programme, run by Oxfordshire coach of the year, Mark Wilkins. The programme covers all ages and abilities running from toddlers upwards. Twenty seven group sessions are run each week including both adults and juniors. This varies from the popular cardio tennis, to the recently introduced Tennis Xpress and future implementation of Tennis For Kids, the popular LTA Davis Cup initiative.
The Schools coaching programme provides the backbone of the club’s mission statement, providing free curriculum time coaching in four local primary schools. This is in conjunction with a local charity, The Jack O’Donnell Foundation, which aims to engage children in the local area in sport.
Along with a strong coaching programme, the club has a thriving social tennis community with four dedicated social sessions per week.
At Thame there is something for everyone, no matter where you are in your tennis journey!
Wantage Lawn Tennis Club is an open and friendly club which welcomes players of all ages and abilities.
Last year, the Club moved into beautiful new facilities in Manor Road Park, with four floodlit courts, as well as two courts, managed by the club which are available for non-members to book.
The junior coaching programme, supported by three LTA qualified coaches, runs from 4-7pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays catering for 2 – 17 year olds. We’re also hoping to enter some junior teams into the AEGON leagues this summer and put on occasional tournaments at the weekend. There’s also a junior social session on Thursdays.
For adults, there are club sessions for beginners, social and team players. For those preferring singles, a number of club members support the Vale ‘Local Tennis League.’ Group coaching is also offered to adults including Cardio and Tennis Express for beginners.
The club engages competitively with other local tennis clubs including fielding ten weekend teams in the Oxfordshire summer leagues and two midweek ladies teams. During the winter there are seven weekend teams.
Besides the tennis we also run a number of social events such as quiz nights, barn dances and race nights.
If you’re interested in playing tennis then we would be delighted to show you the facilities, and give you an opportunity to try them out.
