  • Mollie
  • Julia
  • Siyu

Captain: Jack Barron

The team showed a great team performance, high-quality tennis and most importantly never gave up. The tennis that was played was a great watch and the competitor attitude was key across all matches.

We started the weekend facing Buckinghamshire, Siyu was first up on court, she quickly found herself in a tough baseline battle, after being on court for 1 hour 27 minutes she unfortunately missed out, as the match went the way of Buckinghamshire in two tiebreaks. We didn’t get the start we wanted after the singles and found ourselves 3-1 down before the doubles. Mollie and Rui put on a great display of doubles showing some great moves finishing plenty of points at the net, leading to a 4-1 4-2 win over Buckinghamshire’s number 1 pair. Julia and Siyu battled hard and played some great doubles but didn’t quite get the result they hoped for losing 2-4 2-4. Leading Buckinghamshire to a 4-2 win in the overall tie.

Refuelled and ready to go again the girls faced Berkshire. Up first was Julia, who played some brilliant tennis, striking pure from both sides, she came through the first set winning 4-2. As the second set was 3-3 it went to a tiebreak, with this tiebreak 7-4 to Berkshire, they went to a match tiebreak to decide the match, Julia battled hard for every single point and never gave up, the tiebreak 10-6 to Berkshire and Julia just missing out on winning the rubber. This was then followed by Mollie, who put on great display of tennis and had an aggressive baseline battle, Mollie just losing out in a closely fought 2 set match. Rui then stepped on court for her match and played brilliant tennis, being aggressive from the baseline and using her forehand to dictate the match, winning 4-2 4-1. This left the tie 3-1 in Berkshires favour. Neither side of the doubles went our way, and the final score in the tie was 5-1 to Berkshire, despite the brilliant efforts from Mollie and Rui to narrowly miss out on taking their doubles to a match tiebreak after losing both sets in close tiebreaks.

On day 2 we faced Sussex as we looked for our first win, Siyu was first on court and came through a first set tiebreak battle, she then found herself quickly 3-0 up in the second set and soon after getting the first point on the board for Team Oxfordshire. This then followed by Julia, also coming through a first set tiebreak, 7-2, and a quick second set then made it 2/2 in the singles. Mollie had a great plan, which she put into practice playing a high level from the baseline and proving too much for Sussex number 2, Mollie got her singles win 4-2 4-2. This led us to a 3-0 advantage in the singles, As Rui faced off in the number 1 match. Rui faced some long tough rallies, with neither of them missing, she came through the first set on a tiebreak. Unfortunately, the second set didn’t go her way losing 4-1. This led her to a match tiebreak to decide the match, she was reset and ready to go, finding herself on top after the first few points she then battled to a 10-3 victory leading the girls to a 4-0 lead after the singles. Into the doubles and Mollie and Rui put on another great doubles display, with more great volleying and the Mollie/Rui pairing proved too much leading them to a 4-1 4-3 win. Siyu and Julia losing narrowly 7-5 in their first set tiebreak, quickly got the second set back in their favour and winning it 4-2. Leading to the last match of the day going to a match tiebreak, Siyu and Julia, both battled hard for every single point and won 10-5. This leading the Girls to a 6-0 win on the final day.

Well done girls!
