11U Boys County Cup Report

Both Allan and Scott were very pleased with the overall performance of this year’s Under 11 Team at Stourbridge.

It is safe to say that the players should be very proud of how they conducted themselves throughout the County Cup as well as the training sessions preceding it.

The weekend was really long and the weather did not help anyone on the Saturday as play did not get underway until after lunchtime. We were then the last off the courts.

We started day 1 off with a fixture vs Derbyshire on the astroturf, who went on to be the overall winners on the weekend. We picked our first four ranked players for the fixture and came second, with a 2-4 loss. Sebastian had a really tough match vs Ned Salmon (13 in the UK and undefeated over the weekend in both singles and doubles). However we went into the doubles at 2-2 with wins from Freddie and Kiril. 

We then narrowly lost out to both doubles in two TB’s.This was a really challenging day as the courts were very wet and the balls were heavy, so lots of adapting was needed.

The second fixture of the day was against Herefordshire and Worcestershire. We won overall with wins from Kiril and Freddie and Peter in the singles rounds. Going into the doubles we needed to secure just one doubles and we did, with an excellent match TB with Kiril and Peter coming back from 8-2 down to win 10-8!!

Sunday 16th June, Day 2

We had to wait a while for another match to finish but this saw us play against Staffordshire on the claytex, with a very convincing 5-1 win overall. This was the one we really had to win to secure 3rd spot. The entire team stuck together supporting each other when we were challenged at times.

We felt the team came together really well and put in a fantastic effort both individually as well as collectively as we came third overall, out of six Counties.
