12U Boys County Cup Report

We Won!!! We went on to be the overall winners on the weekend.

Both Allan and Scott were very proud with the performance of this year’s Under 12 Team at Bradfield College. What a team!

It is safe to say that the players should be very pleased with how they conducted themselves throughout the County Cup.

After an early captains meeting and an hour's practice at 09:00, along with some unfortunate scheduling, we finally got onto the court at 14:30 due to the order of play. We started day 1 with our first fixture vs Sussex. Sussex were the strongest seeded county based on their rankings so we knew we were in for a tough match.

Playing on clay the entire weekend, both Allan and Scott knew they fancied their chances.

We went into the doubles with our highest ranked players and after round one, we were 3-1 up going into the doubles. The stand out match was the match that won us the tie, in which Adam and Timothy won the match in a MTB 10-7. This fixture set the scene for the weekend.

We knew that beating Berkshire meant that we would go into a shootout vs the other top team in the other group, so Allan and Scott gave the boys a good prep talk in the morning.

On Sunday morning, the second fixture were upon us. We swapped the 4 & 5 singles players around this time, putting Marko at number 4. After the singles round, we were 3-1 up. However, out of the 8 sets we played, 50% went to tiebreaks, meaning this could have gone either way, we just won the important points.

Securing one of the doubles, in an epic match, Sebastian and Timothy won 15-13 in the MTB.

Knowing we had now topped the group, we went over to watch our potential opponent, who we thought would be Devon, in which it was.

We started with Marko and Timothy, winning one and losing one. Then Emmanuel and Adam went on, both winning 10-4 in the third set TB. Adam managed to get a win over the #21 ranked player in the UK.

We then secured the doubles with a solid performance from Sebastian and Timothy, who worked well together over the weekend as a pair.

We felt the team came together really well and put in a fantastic effort both individually and collectively.

Thank you to all the players and parents for their patience and support over the weekend.
