12U Girls County Cup Report

The Girls 12U team spent the weekend in Woodbridge playing against, Buckinghamshire, Suffolk and Bedfordshire.

The team consisted of Jasmine, Victoria, Emily & Rosie.

First up on Saturday was Buckinghamshire.

All four of the girls played some great tennis during their singles, despite losing two of the matches in very close match tie breaks. Victoria got the team’s first win, meaning the score was 3-1 to Bucks heading into the doubles. Jasmine & Rosie teamed up at pair one, but despite putting up a good fight and only narrowly losing the first set, unfortunately they couldn’t quite turn it around in the second set. Victoria & Emily at pair two gave it their all, however their opponents proved too strong this time. This meant Bucks took the win 5-1.

The girls first opponents on Sunday were Suffolk.

Emily & Rosie displayed some brilliant tennis in their singles, with both matches being decided on match tie breaks. Rosie just missed out but Emily secured the first win of the day, levelling the score at 1-1. Victoria & Jasmine continued the winning streak with straight set victories. This meant the girls were heading into the doubles with a strong 3-1 lead. Using the momentum gained from a successful start to the day, all four girls fought extremely hard in their doubles matches. Showing great teamwork and fighting spirit they won both doubles matches, securing a fantastic 5-1 win over Suffolk.

After a bit of a break and having made use of the children’s park whilst they waited, the girls were ready to take on Bedfordshire.

After long singles matches all round, the score was level at 2-2 meaning it was all to play for in the doubles. Jasmine & Rosie put in a solid performance winning their doubles in straight sets. Victoria & Emily had an extremely close doubles that went all the way to a match tie, however they held their nerve and took the win 11-9. An excellent end to the weekend and a 4-2 victory over Bedfordshire meaning the girls finished the weekend in 3rd place.

A huge well done to all four of the girls, they should be extremely proud of themselves. Not only for the way they played throughout the weekend, but also for representing the County with such great attitudes.

A big thanks to the players, parents/grandparents & Tennis Oxfordshire for their support over the weekend.
