Ladies Summer County Cup Report

Oxfordshire ladies competed in the 2024 summer county cup at the impressive Northern Club in Manchester. With no rain and some welcome sunshine, all counties managed a full week play on the grass.

Oxfordshire’s team - Olivia Christie, Ottelia, Sonia, Holly Sheeran-Hall, Hannah Craig, Lucy Denly, Hannah Denly and Chloe Elliott got off to an impressive start with wins against Shropshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man.

After 3 days we were top of our box, feeling good and well set for the matches ahead. Our sights were set firmly on pushing for promotion.

We knew the next two days would be tough against the Channel Islands and Devon who both had strong teams. Oxfordshire fought hard, narrowly missing out to the Channel Islands by one match that ended 10-8 in a tie break.

It all came down to the last day when we gave it everything we had. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite enough. We may have narrowly missed out on promotion but ended the week with an impressive third place overall.

Thanks to everyone in the team for a great performance and for making it such an enjoyable week. We were all very proud of what we achieved and are already looking forward to next year. A big thankyou to Tennis Oxfordshire for their support and to The Northern Cub for being such great hosts.
