Nicky Maskens Awards
In 2021, Tennis Oxfordshire launched an award to mark Nicky Masken’s major contribution to tennis in the County and Country. Nicky was an inspirational figure who played a key role as Chair of the County Management Committee and Chair of the influential LTA Tennis Development Committee.
A central objective for Nicky was to get more people playing tennis and she was influential in the LTA’s shift towards “Tennis Opened Up”. She also worked hard at County level to make this a reality. When decisions had to be made, the guiding principle was “what will get the largest numbers playing and competing.”
The Award recognises this, focusing on both participation and competition. It is awarded annually to the man or woman who, over the course of a year, has played regularly and with success in the Oxfordshire County Leagues. In addition the award winner will have contributed more widely to developing and opening up tennis in their club/venue.
The award will be an addition to the standard LTA Awards categories but will be a part of the same nomination and judging cycle.
The agreed criteria are:
Nicky Maskens Award – the Nominee
- Has played regularly in the Oxfordshire County Leagues over the previous Summer and Winter seasons.
- Has performed well for their club in the Leagues.
- Has sought to make playing in a team welcoming and accessible.
- Has shown a wider commitment to developing and opening up tennis at their club/venue.
