North Oxford Men's O35 European Runners Up

From 21 - 23 November, the North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club Men's O35 team played in the Men’s O35 European Senior Club Championships in Antalya, Turkey.

The team of Jon Maskens, Joe Cartledge, Christian Petersen and Richard Evans competed against some of the best teams around.

On Day 1, the team scored the Clubs first ever international win with a 3-2 victory over local favourites Meta Tenis. The team carried their solid performances into Day 2 and raced to a 3-0 victory over Turkish team, Levent Tenis.

With two wins under their belt, the team set up a Battle of the Brits title showdown against St George's Hill, that was led by Davis Cup winner Dom Inglot.

Joe lost in a tight 3 setter, Richard lost in straight sets and Jon battled to 6-2, 6-4 loss against the big hitting Inglot.

Joe and Richard lost their doubles in a close 3 set battle with Christian and Jon going down 7-5, 6.2.

The Oxford boys put in some big performances, but it wasn’t quite enough and the stronger team won 5-0. Congrats to St George’s Hill.

One of the highlights of the day was when Christian hit a second serve ace past Inglot.

A fantastic event for North Oxford and they should be very proud to be the Men’s O35 European finalists.

The team would like to thank North Oxford and Chris Lewis Fire and Security for their financial support. Also, thanks to Tennis Europe and the Turkish Tennis Federation for running such a well organised event.
